Communication in Leader

"Are we a leader?" The answer is "Yes, we are a leader". As a muslim, we believe that Allah S.W.T has addressed the believers as Ummah, which implies the necessity of leadership in Islam. Allah says to his Prophet Mohammad S.A.W "...I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion" (Surah Al-Maidah). Mohammad S.A.W says "Every one of you is a shepherd (leader) and every one of you is responsible for what he is shephers (led) of" (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Generally, we all are a leader. First and foremost, we lead ourselves. Then, through our influence, official or unofficial, personal or proffesional, we lead others. Leadership is essential to accomplishing every goal in life, and as a leader we must grow in order to succeed. John. W.Gardner observed, "If I had to name a single all-purpose instrument of leadership, it would be communication." If we cannot communicate, we will not lead others effectively. A leader who has poor leadership communication will find leading far more challenging than a great communicator. Respect and confidence on the part of staff, the executive team and board will be much harder to earn.

Nowdays, there are many successful leaders that have a great communication skills. For an examples are we can look at the performances of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama to see the role that effective leadership communication has played in their successes.

Bill Clinton is widely regarded as the most effective communicator to ever enter the White House. His communication skills and in particular his charisma were regarded as central to his ability to consistently turn opponents into friends and to build strong alliances with world leaders. His informality and openness were central to the connection he was able to establish with audiences and individuals including former Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

More recently, President Barack Obama, described as the 'Communicator in Chief', connected with and inspired millions of Americans during his Presidential campaign. His performance as an orator and use of leadership body language is virtually unprecedented for a politician. Critically, Obama possesses a conversational and relaxed communication style that is critical when seeking to connect with people. By way of contrast the recent lack of success by Caroline Kennedy and John McCain demonstrate the consequences of poor communication skills.

The Key Components of Effective Leadership Communication.

To be truly effective as a communicator a leader must:

1. Develop the mindset of a leader. Given that our nonverbal communication reveals to the world what we feel inside, emotional mastery is critical to congruent, credible communication.

2. Be able to connect with people on an emotional level. This is important for leaders, because people form opinions and make decisions based on their emotions.

3. Develop leadership charisma. There is an important distinction between 'leadership charisma' and 'regular charisma'. The distinction is that a leader must always maintain authority whilst communicating is charisma.

4. Learn to move like a leader. Body language communicates your emotional state to the world. A leader must become aware of and take control of, the signals they are broadcasting, as these signals may be odds with the messages they wish to communicate.

As a conclusion, a leader who has strong leadership communication skills will find it easier to conect with others (increasing trust and respect), steer a country, organization or community through stormy weather, build morale, manage conflict and inspire people.

Grooming

"You are your greatest asset"
"Put your time, effort, and money into training, grooming, and encouraging your greatest asset"-Tom Hopkins

Grooming is a personal appearance, hygiene, and clothing. This class was teach by Madam Leilanie Mohd Nor. "You are what you wear". Everybody grooming their selves, what their wear is reflected on their personality. Grooming is important because it is how we project ourselves. Madam Leilanie had teach us on how to groom both for men and woman.

First of all, what have known is about ourselves, we have to determine are we a cool or warm person. Put our wrist under light, and look at the vein, determine what is our vein colour. If it is a blue colour, so we are cool person. But if it is a green colour, then we are warm person. It will describe a suitable colour for us. This will help us to choose a right colour for our clothes.

Here are some example of proffesional/bussiness attire :

Good grooming is an important part of how we present ourselves. To look our best consistently practice good grooming habits everyday. Instead of personal appearance, personal hygiene is also important. Clean hair and clothing help us to look and feel our best and thus to perform to the best of our ability.

Just for advise, as a Muslim, we can not be too obsessed for grooming until it will make us wear clothes same as the people in the West country. While we are grooming, we need to make sure that we wear clothes that follow to the Islamic law.

As a conclusion, this grooming class is important for us as a young generation to build our career. I hope after this class, at least I will wear a right clothes on the right time in my future life..

Communication module

Communication module was the first module in Best Programme. Before come to the class, I felt nervous, because I have no idea about this programme, then, after Madam Norliza dan Madam Farahiyah were introduced themselves, my nervousness going disappear. It is because Madam Norliza and Madam Farahiyah are very nice trainers and also friendly. Madam Norliza and Madam Farahiyah had explained and discussed with us on the topics of “Introduction of Communication” and “Communication Concept and Skills”.

Communication is the art of transmitting information, ideas, and attitudes from one person to another, either by verbal and non-verbal communication. 30% of total communication process is speaking, 45% of total communication is listening, 16% is reading and writing is only 9% in total communication process. Listening become an important part in communication skills. Have 3 step in listening process, which are hear, understand and response. Without a good listening skills, a communication can be consider fail, because the transmitting information or message process is the important part in communication.

Comunication can be classify into 2 types, either verbal communication or nonverbal communication. Verbal communication is communicating through sending and receiving messages with words (including writing and sign language). Nonverbal communication is understood through sending and receiving wordless messages. It is communicated through gesture, body language or posture, facial expression and eye contact.

My friends and I had done many activities in these 2 days such as grouping presentation on how we want to escape from island. The activities was done to brush up our confidence, and communication skills especially in English.

Chimera

Chimera is my group's name in this Best programme. It was suggested by one of our members which is Fadirul Fais. At first, my friends and I think that it is a good name as well as a good sound to pronounce. Then, we started to ask what is the meaning of it?

The Chimera was according to Greek mythology, a monstrous fire-breathing female creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of multiple animals: upon the body of a lioness with a tail that ended in a snake's head, the head of a goat arose on her back at the center of her spine. This is the definition that I found at wikipedia. Wah..it's quite surprising me because the name is a cute name but the real meaning is quite scary. But, we take this creature as a symbolic to our team/group. We believe that eventhough we are coming from different place, culture, and background study we will become a good team. Our tagline is "mission possible"

Doctors also said that my uncle is in very dehydrated condition, but they can not give to him a food or drink because of his colon cancer, if they give to my uncle a food or drink my uncle's body will reject it, and it's make my uncle into bad condition.

My mother feel very sad, she is crying when she look her brother sick. My mother said to me, she very love her brother. It is because my uncle is the person who take care my mother's family when my grandfather (my mother's father)died. My grandfather was died when my mother only 3 years old.
